Harlequin Aging Sheet

Just a quick upload of something just to indicate that I am still producing. Getting my classes ready for next term so all updates like Otto the Odd and this blog may be on hold for a little while. I’m off to New York this Wednesday to have my interview at SVA for a spot in their Master’s Program in Illustration. Wish me luck, eh?

New Works in Process

A couple of good friends and myself are thinking about starting an illustration studio. We decided it might be a good idea to begin with an experiment to test our collaboration skills. For this experiment we are each taking musicians we like and designing rock posters inspired by their music. The idea is that each of us will have a hand in the creation of our final pieces. These are the thumbnails for a couple of my own ideas.  Florence and the Machine is a natural choice, I’m very fond of the album, Lungs.

Grumpy Gus – a set on Flickr

This is Gus.  He’s been my pal for these past seven years, my travel companion, and handles change in the same very way that I do: not very well.  So, in honor of Gus’s constancy and somewhat unconditional friendship I have created a set on flickr for the moments that we have shared with each other over the years.  My Gus, my muse, my fuzzy lard butt.

Probably not the wisest action to do caricatures of your co-workers, especially your boss. Aw, the heck with it.

Otto the Odd & the Dragon King

I am happy to state that the online website for my first comic is live, Otto the Odd & the Dragon King is a short story for juniors that I have been collaborating on with author George Herman since 2004. It stars an eleven-year-old prince named Otto, who is hyperactive and hates baths. His best friend and mentor is a very, very old dragon he calls Sparky. Otto’s troubles become even greater when an aging knight named Sir George comes to his country and convinces the king to sign a binding contract enabling him to slay any and all dragons in the regency, and Sparky’s at the top of the list.

The first eight pages are uploaded, I hope to have regular updates. Best laid plans and all.

Check it out!

Aerospace Engineer Tattoo

This was originally done for a tattoo competition. I’ve designed a few tattoos for friends and co-workers in the past so it wasn’t completely foreign. The client went with another entry so this image is mine to do with as I please. And I kind of like it, so up it goes.

GATO II

Coffee Posse…

Paint yer friends.

This is a goofy thing of myself and my coffee shop art party gang as, I don’t know, reality-star-super-hero-disaffected-twenty-somethings or what.  Pretentious, I know, but that’s how I roll.

Look at their stuff, for they are rockin’ illustrators too ya know!
